Streaming music
Streaming music
I'm trying to stream music from my computer to my 360. My 360 detects my pc but when I look for songs on my 360 it says there are none. It finds everything else though like pictures and video but no music. What do I do?
To stream from the PC to xbox windows requires a whole bunch of services running. Sometimes they get restarted or stopped for little reason I can find. Try restarting your PC, try reconfiguring the sharing options in WM11 or the Zune player, whichever you use. That might for them to restart. If you know how to fix the services you can try to restart all the Zunne/WMShare/WMNetwork services, if you don't, I wouldn't mess around with them.
Streaming to the Xbox is a great feature, unfortunately it is very picky and has a tendency to not work for little known reason.

I'm still using windows media connect to stream from my PC to my 360. Have they done away with WMC completely in favor of the Zune software for streaming?
Once I got the WMC software installed (including some .net 2.0 upgrades) on my PC and got my shared folders sorted out I haven't had any problems with streaming to the 360. In fact, the PC i'm using sits in my crawl space as a central server for the house and hasn't even been rebooted in...forever. Now that I think of it, WMC has been more stable over the last couple months than the iTunes sharing which has required me to go and restart the program on the server several times.

Sorry, perhaps I got the acronyms mixed up... I use Windows Media Connect for streaming. It's an aplet that sits in the systray and just happily streams selected folders to other compaitble devices.
I'm not sure that it exists anymore. I think it has evolved into the zune software, but i really haven't looked into it in quite sometime. I believe when my brother got his 360 and did the streaming thing he had to download the zune software.

I had this same issue with WMP 11. However, WMC seems to work fine. I don't know what is up with that. The other option is to use another tool. For example, I have been using TVersity on one of my PCs, and it works fine for MP3s, DivX movies, etc. It seems like a much better solution than any of the Microsoft products. However, to use it, you must disable sharing on all of the M$ products.
I posted about configuring TVersity before, here is the topic link.

I often find myself loading my zune directly into my xbox. If I stream to my xbox from my PC the xbox only caches the first 2,000 artists or songs or whatever, with a collection of over 14,000 songs this can get annoying when it only plays songs that start with A B or C.
It doesn't seem to do this when using the zune though.

I love my Zune, the interface is great, it's got a huge screen, it's the same price as a 30gig Ipod. Microsoft has repeatedly announced that they are going to have huge updates to the firmware in functionality of it over the next 6 months, which means it can only get better. The battery life is better than my ipod, overall it is just much better.R3V3N4N7 wrote:Is the Zune a good device?
