BBC News reports on how young people use online games

Post by PristineSteam » Tue Mar 14, 2006 1:03 pm

BBC News reports on How gaming is all work and no play. They say that 70% of 9 to 19 year olds play online games. They talk about a game called Runescape, and a 16 year old player who goes by the name of Axegrrl. She talks about going there (to the virtual world) just to hang out.

"You can just sit back by the river and relax. I could watch the water for hours it's so pretty. Not that many people come here so it's a great place just to be, you know."

The article later says: Axegrrl admits she has never seen a real waterfall or sat by a real river, but she uses the virtual experience to imagine how an event in real life might actually feel.

This made me kind of sad. Never seen a real waterfall? Never sat by a real river? Online games are great, but it's also good to leave the house once in a while.
