anyone into chiptune music?

Post by bellulah » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:18 am

the title says it all... i just was wondering if anyone else was into it at all. for anyone who wants
examples, check out

it's when people sample noises from 8-bit games and manipulate them into songs. it's a really
creative form of music in my opinion, and if you're into games and into music it's a no-brainer!

I love that kind of music.... SID tunes, 8 bit chip tunes etc....

Good C64 chiptune site, with downloadable mp3 mixes....

more mp3 downloads..

(scroll down right hand side, look for my recommendation to start you off - Episode #9 - The Party Episode - (go 10 minutes in to the half hour episode is a great track))

I listen to them while coding at work:
My favorite 8-bit peoples album right now is Trash80: Icarus, and not just because of the name.
I also like Lo-bat: Game Boy.

Visit to see their sweet DHTML homage to Amiga and download some cool tunes.

I also listen to a lot of while at work.

Nice. That's some great stuff there i'd not heard of.... i'll have a good listen today.

I did buy a great cd a while back.... 8-Bit Operators The Music of Kraftwerk:

The Audio & MP3 section has samples from each track on the album.

If you like Synth music there's a great band i recently discovered called Redshift. Not 8 bit music, but they use retro keyboards from the 70's and 80's and have a great old school electronic feeling.
Here they are performing:
